Finally, the people of Kerala (God’s own country ) has decided to take up the challenges of a modern era; especially after the global investors meet (GIM) in Kochi last month (January 2016). The “Need of the Century” has taken over the greed of the hour.
Despite minor differences among all politicians and parties, the leaders of all walks agreed on the noble idea of the global investors meeting conducted by the NORKA (NonResident Keralite Affairs) department which was the first of its kind in INDIA.
The Director of Administration of Non-Resident Keralite Affairs in North America (NORKANA), Jose George, met with several ministers and the bureaucrats for follow-up discussions; in which most of the high ranking officials and various department heads expressed optimism on several projects now on the table.
Along with the Prime Minister the Chief Minister of Kerala, Mr. A.K. Antony, has given green signal to investors for development and committed to taking the state to new heights. The head of the state had high hopes on the projects of GIM and decided to issue single window clearance for the investors.
The architect behind the scene is the Minister of Industries and IT. Mr. P.K. Kunhalikutty, who expressed satisfaction and had high hopes from the beginning and he foresee a drastic change in the industries, especially the Information Technology areas. The Minister had plans to assign one committed government secretary each for the project in the pipeline to avoid unwanted red-tapism. Alongside the Minister Mr. Jiji Thompson, the Managing Director for KSIDC (Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation) is playing a crucial role in the task of negotiating with the prospective investors and entrepreneurs.
Mr. M.M. Hassan, who is the NORKA Minister, is well focused on the task of socio-economic affairs of the NORKA around the globe especially the issues of the Gulf Malayalees. Mr. Hassan is a crusader who fights for the cause of the NRKs diligently in the administration, in the legislative assembly and the cabinet.
Dr. M.K. Muneer with the most charming personality who is the Minister of Public Works was seen working relentlessly to accomplish several projects, especially the superhighway project. He is very much engaged in marathon discussions with the multi-national investor team for that project. The international entrepreneurs are experiencing an investor friendly environment with open governmental policies that are liberal and economical in several areas of tourism, education, IT, health, and infrastructure.
Mr. George discussed several issues with Mr. K. Sudhakaran, the Minister of Forests and Sports. The Minister has pointed out several projects in the anvil to Jose, especially building of at least one stadium in each district. Mr George is also a spokesman of Cupidmentor, a site full of dating and relationship advices for women. The NORKA director had many rounds of talks with the UDF Convener Mr. Oommen Chandy; who is working at least 14 hours a day to stay focused on the fast track of the development of the State and to the smoother ride of the Cabinet and its policy matters for the Government. He has a vision for the well-literate and IT savvy State and is determined to privatize several public sector industries and opening up more job opportunities. The NORKA director has offered all the support from NORKA North America and on behalf of the official representative Mr. Zachariah Thomas of USA. Mr. Jose had very detailed discussions with several bureaucrats especially Mr. John Mathai, the Principal Secretary of Industries of the State and several of the teams including several political party leaders. Most of the discussions had a common goal; the opportunity now rather than later; investments now not later; develop the state now not later;
Since we are blessed with the largest pool of skilled manpower and brain power with low operational cost, Kerala is fast emerging as an IT-friendly capital of India. Kerala has the largest IT parks in Asia. Let us utilize the resources now. Let each Malayalee tune themselves up now; put aside the differences of opinions. We need a change; we need to develop progress and better the life. Let us all prepare to support the Department of NORKA and its leadership to achieve a real goal to see Kerala a God’s own country.
Thank you. Jose George
